Bluegrass Concert Poster
For this assignment, I had to create a 1 color poster that would be printed on colored paper. The first idea I had when thinking of a bluegrass concert and being limited to 1 color was literal blue grass and then the instrument growing out of it. I designed the grass in Photoshop from a single blade that I then copied, arranged, and transformed. I masked out the instrument top and added strings with a watercolor brush. I then brought the Photoshop designs into InDesign where I arranged them and then added the type. I searched for a font that fit the bluegrass feel and found the swatches that came with some of the capital letters interesting. There wasn’t originally a swash on the “S,” but I added a swash to it to balance out the swash of the “R.” I got all of the information for the bands and location from festivalofthebluegrass.com and a poster that they had designed which I used as a reference. I initially didn’t have the times listed and instead had all the bands playing in that area of the poster because the poster I used as reference didn’t have times, but I added times that I made up to make it more like a real concert poster.
