The Growler Magazine Cover

The purpose of this assignment was to create a design related to beer or wine using physical mediums to feature as a cover design for the magazine, The Growler. I used prismacolor color pencils to create this drawing of a beer mug based off of a reference image. I scanned my drawing onto the computer and touched up some spots in Photoshop. I then placed the image in Illustrator and added the text, logo, and background. The main problem I had when planning this design was making sure that it was recognized as a mug of beer. I wanted the magazine title to fit in the foam of the beer and so I knew I couldn’t fit the whole handle on the page and I needed to find the right amount of handle to show to associate the design to a mug of beer. I’m happy with the placement that I decided on because of how the title fits in the foam, the left side lines up with the issue information, and the handle gets cut off just enough.
